Drones – Maybe the #1 Christmas Present this year?

Drones seem to be ever increasing in popularity. They come in all shapes and sizes; and are used for multiple things as of late. Have you seen Amazon using a drone to deliver parcels?

A drone or quadcopter, also called a quadrotor helicopter or quadrotor, is a multirotor helicopter that is lifted and propelled by four rotors. Quadcopters are classified as rotorcraft, as opposed to fixed-wing aircraft, because their lift is generated by a set of rotors (vertically oriented propellers).

Drones generally use two pairs of identical fixed pitched propellers; two clockwise (CW) and two counter-clockwise (CCW). This enables the drone to maneuver how it does.

Now there is also a security drone that can chase intruders all by itself (Read more here) –

After a long wait, Secom’s security drone is ready for service… and it has a clever trick up its sleeve. The robot will not only capture photos of cars and people that wander on to forbidden grounds, but automatically chase them to get their faces and license plates on camera. While it won’t be much help if the thieves know how to run — it can’t move faster than 6MPH — it could make the difference between a usable photo and a shot of an empty parking lot.”

Drones allow amazing video footage to be taken too. They will likely revolutionise the film industry, with their growing capacity to take HD movies. Our Video Intern – Trent also has a Drone that he has used to record footage from Putt4Dough – an IT event we sponsored here in Perth. The footage will be out soon.

A friend of mine, worked on a house on which they flew through a drone to create a sales video – I thought this was an amazing way to capture the house as a sales video.

GoPro – one of the most famous Action Camera makers have also announced their drone – being released in 2016 – Called Karma.

Did you know that drones even come in tiny sizes too? These are nano drones.

Drones are amazingly fun to fly and it does take a bit of learning, however I think that a drone most probably going to be on most big kids list this Christmas! They are becoming increasingly powerful as well as expanding in uses.

If you are considering a drone maybe a good video to watch would be :

So is a drone on your Christmas list, or do you have one already? Let me know!
